Upload speeds were also impressive at around 1,008 Mbps, and the connection response time, or latency, was measured at a super low 3 milliseconds. Low latency is crucial for things like smooth online gaming and video calls.

You might be wondering how they achieved such a speed boost. Does it require ripping out all the old cables and laying down completely new ones? Surprisingly, no, and that is the clever part.

China launching the first commercial 10G network is a big deal. It puts them ahead in the global race for faster internet infrastructure. While pilot projects and tests are happening elsewhere, having a publicly available service is a significant step.

The initial launch in Xiong’an is seen as a model. China plans to expand this 10G service to other areas, with reports mentioning 168 locations, potentially including major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, depending on how ready the infrastructure is and how much demand there is from consumers.

For the rest of the world, including places like the US, Europe, and here in Peru, widespread 10G availability is likely still some years away. Companies are continuously upgrading networks, pushing towards multi gigabit speeds, but a full 10G standard for homes is not common yet. China’s move, however, might accelerate efforts globally.
